Summer Plans 2009

Finished finals and now I don’t have to really study for the next few months. I have a list of goals or things I need to finish before I go back to school. I’ve already made a quick list on Twitter. But being limited to 140 characters really sucks.

No particular order…

Get a job – duh.. I need to buy stuff.. and pay for school.

Work on a Wordpress theme – I scrapped my old layout (v3) and going to work on a new one when I feel motivated. Once I get this finished, my image gallery will also go live.

Make a website mascot – One of my talents is to emulate (copy) drawings. I don’t practice enough to be able to draw an original one from scratch but I don’t think I need to truly worry about it. I mostly need a few sketches and I’ll see where it goes from there.

Get better at fighting games – Street Fighter 4, Immaterial and Missing Power, Melty Blood Act Cadenza, and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core. Then during the summer, you got King of Fighters XII and BlazBlue coming out. Quite a lot to play. I feel the need to compete in something since I no longer play FPS games. I’ve already gotten to know some of the locals and I’m already known by a first name bases, even though I’m a huge scrub. But they are all very encouraging so I’m motivated to play against them.

Get an arcade stick – One of the things holding me back would be because I don’t have one. A lot of the SF4 cast is boring as hell and the one character I want to play should be played on stick. I’ve been talking to a few people about it and I’m pretty much going to get a custom stick. I need choose between Seimitsu and Sanwa sticks. A lot of people use Sanwa but for some reason.. I think I like the Seimitsu ones better. I want to try to emulate the Japanese cabinet experience but if I don’t feel comfortable with it.. I don’t think I will have a choice. I can get two sticks but for now.. it’s not within my budget.

Improve my Chinese – This is possibly the second most important thing on the list. I feel ashamed at myself for not taking it seriously when I was younger… huge regrets from my childhood. A whole new world would be opened to me and I would be able to expand into newer social groups. Oh ya.. and to troll the Chinese Facebook.

Start learning Japanese – This sounds like a typical otaku thing to do… and well.. I have some otaku reasons. But I think it would be relatively easy for me to pick up quick. The chinese character: ??, hanzi in Chinese or kanji in Japanese, is essentially the same thing. If I know how to read Chinese, which has a ridiculous amount of symbols already.. why not go the extra step and learning hiragana and katakana?
I guess I want to be able to expand into another social group. Be able to talk to some Japanese people about fighting games and all that. I hear that there’s a lot of funny stuff that goes on in 2ch so I think that would also be worth checking out.

Learn to cook – Besides designing and music. One of my other hidden passions I realized at a young age would be cooking. I don’t think there is a better feeling than to have people enjoy your cooking.

Papercraft – While surfing 4chan, I found some pretty cool looking models made of paper. I thought it was pretty cool and I wanted to make some for myself. I’ve made a few already and showed it to my friends. The reactions I got were pretty good, a lot of them seem to like it. Except for one, who just said I needed a girlfriend. Making paper children is also pretty cool. Being able to draw will also be able to help. I may just make a new category in the future.

Go to Ai-kon 2009 – It’s the anime convention in my city. I already have some friends going so I will be taking a lot of cosplay pictures and be chilling in the gaming room for most of it.

Rather long list but these are all the things I have to do… not sure if I can do them all but I sure as hell will try.
