Another Year, Another List (2009)

These were the first two anime shows this year that really popped into my head from this year.  I did make a list last year that had Toradora! as well but it spanned into the new years so it isn’t exactly cheating.  I don’t think I followed that much anime this year.. maybe one or two each season.  The summer had a few more decent things… I think.. I don’t remember.  Fall lineup was a bit better as I watched a bit more but they weren’t great either.

Nyan Koi was also somewhat enjoyable.  Gotta love those twins.

Aside from anime, there are other things I did this year that I may or may not have blogged or tweeted about.

Stuff I did or remember from this year…

  • Getting involved with the local fighting game scene.  Made a bunch of new friends and was very welcoming.  I don’t think there’s a better and tighter scene out there.
  • My mp3 player stuck on permanent repeat… broken. ;_;
  • Getting drunk with friends I haven’t really seen since high school.
  • Realizing that I can graduate in less than two years if I don’t mess up.
  • C4 (Central Canada Comic Con 2009).  Got to met people with similar interests and took a lot of good pictures.  Bayonetta and the girl in the red dress.  It was kind of funny because I might have seen the girl in the red dress in the halls at school.
  • Started to use Twitter.
  • Finally getting an arcade stick to play fighting games.  I should probably play more but I lack the motivation to get better at the moment.
  • Not doing half the stuff I wanted to from my summer and New Year’s plan.
  • Starting  to practice guitar again.  Finding that motivation to strive to get better.
  • Finally watching K-ON!  I couldn’t get into it the first time but really enjoyed it once I got passed the first episode.
  • Anime fans getting trolled by Haruhi season 2.
  • Xtreme Tactics (Airsoft) for the first time ever.

Now for the video games!  I can’t say I have any favourites but there are quite a few that needs to be mentioned.

  • Left4Dead2 – This was unexpected more difficult than the first one. I enjoy a good challenge and cooperative play is what makes the game much more fun. Still working towards the only achievement that matters.
  • Tekken 6 – Easy game to pick up and have fun.  A lot of competition around.  Also, I am not that far behind from everyone… just lazy.
  • Melty Blood: Actress Again – This is definitely an underdog fighting game since it appeals to a niche market.  No one plays it locally and without a net play component.  I am stuck just practicing combos and doing nothing.  I enjoy watching matchplay of this game and if it gets on the Evo2k10 game roster.  It would be so hype.
  • Modern Warfare 2 –  What can I say?  It’s fun.  I raged hard in veteran mode when I was working towards 100% trophies.
  • BlazBlue – It is a fun game.  However, the balanced wasn’t there.  The lack of local competition is what drew me off.  I didn’t have that much time to practice my gaming due to school and other personal reasons.  I really like this game too.

Disappointments

  • King of Fighters XII – I wanted it to be a good game because it would have been a throwback to when I played KoF98 back in the laundromat back in junior high school.

Throwbacks, old games I dusted off to play again.

  • Persona 4 – I still very much enjoy the game.  I’m on my third playthrough and I hope to complete my persona compendium this time around.
  • Starcraft: Brood War – A friend of mine kept talking about the game and I just said without thinking, “ya, I can beat you..”  He tells me to bring it and I raped him 13 times.  I just started to play this recently but I think it just might be a temporary flavour and I will get bored of it in another week or so.

I guess I’ll make a list of resolutions for next year later on… we all know how well resolutions work out.
