I would think that vamps are cold-blooded, cold wouldn't exactly be a problem for them and in an area with less people? Less exposure to the human world, seclusion sounds good. As for blood source, they can travel farther I suppose...and in a place that cold, their skin tone should fit right in....just speculation of course^^

Oh, that map's not the most retarded thing about this first episode... but I'll save my rants on the subject for other areas. My god, but this was a fucking stupid way to start the series.

But one reason to live in Canada is probably the lack of vampire hunters, which given the setting of the series is a good thing. I'll only spoil a little detail; the vampires are at war, and Europe's one of the worst battlegrounds.

I think we're arguing two different things. I am not going to say that all locations in northern countries are bad. Tromso, Norway has a pretty good location for a place that has "polar nights" like you mentioned.

I was mostly nitpicking at the fact that the map made is retarded. I should have emphasized more on the fact that the some of the markings are in remote locations with little or no population. Just look and think about the locations of those dots in Canada. The 3 on the right is very questionable and does not really have a high significant population. What good is it to have lack of sunlight when there is no one there? What I'm pretty much saying is that most of the locations they dotted is not ideal for a vampire to live. The cold will generally do that. Since I can tell where you live by your host mask. You should know that we have some very cold winters. It would make a lot more sense if it it had more in Europe.

I am saying this for Canada only because I know the general population dumps. I can't comment much on the outside NA as I have no idea where capitals may lie. I don't care enough to find out.
