Anyways, I think it is overlooked since everyone else is watching Code Geass like they’re on crack.

Penguin Girl takes elements from just about every source you can imagine, a satire. One of the hidden gems out of the cluster of crap out this season.

The cast is full of unique types. You have the main character, Sakura (Pen as a nickname), who happens to be a crazy otaku. She goes over the top when it comes to cosplay and anime or manga related stuff. A supporting role, Kujira, who is plays the tsundere type character. Chi, a lesbian who fights the tsundere for marriage or something, she talks in the third person and bares a resemblance to Chun Li. There’s one more but she’s sort of plain.

There is no real plot to this anime. It is all just random happenings. Similar to that of Lucky Star. One difference between those two anime is that there is quite a lot of fan service in this. A lot of boob shots and panty shots.

Since several episodes has already past, I will take the effort to post the highlights over the first few episodes.

The fanservice makes me want to play some h-games… not because of the butler… I’M NOT GAY.

Sequel to Immaterial and Missing Power. This new fighter has been taking away my soul. Because of this, I’ve been neglecting my Melty Blood.

The story mode is rather cheap. I am not that good to even try the harder difficulties mainly because the characters I like to play doesn’t have great projectiles to throw. I don’t know much about the actual story so I cannot really comment on it. I could read the fan comics and such but I’ll leave that until later.. continue to put it off.

I tried playing IaMP a few months back but uninstalled it almost immediately due to the massive frustration when the opponent uses their spell cards. It pretty much is still the same when they use it but I decided to continue giving it a shot.. Another reason why I stopped so quickly was due to my huge addiction to Melty Blood.

One main thing about this game is that if you don’t get frustrated playing the game. Then you’re playing the game wrong. There isn’t any way you can not get angry with it.

I suppose I will get my other post posted tomorrow. Take more initiative and get my new layout thing ready. And get more posting material. To think that if I didn’t decide to be unsocial today (blow off my friends). I probably wouldn’t have made this post.

Now is the spring time of youth and summer is just around the corner. Which many people are going out to have their own beach episode… possibly two. Darking that pale radiation tanned skin. And some possibly attending a convention (or two).

So why have I neglect this blog empty for such a long time?

One of the reasons why I neglected it for so long is because I started to play Ragnarok Online again. Not the brightest move I made but it has made me never to want to play any sort of grind game ever again. I devoted a lot of time into the game and my guild only to see it fail.

I also quit DOMO. Also a grind game, linear leveling, decent story, bad guild competition, poor monster AI, cash item shop. The community is full of bad players which caused most of my guild to quit. I’m going to quote one of my friends.

As far as I’m concerned, We’ve already reached end game. Our rivals [guilds] try to beat us through levels and failed. We’ve already beat them in a team duel when they were higher level.

I decided to get back into Guild Wars and play it more casually. Less grind oriented, PvP is a little more organized, active devolopers, and events (even though many of them are lame). I look forward to playing Guild Wars 2 when it comes out and hope to compete at a competitive level.

I could say I was busy with school. I got my ass kicked this year because of RO.

Why did I decide to come back and blog once again?

Well one reason is because I get messages in my inbox saying that I got a comment on whatever post I made. Many of them makes me raise an eyebrow since the posts were several months old. Made me realize that most of my posts were filled with ignorance.

I intend on setting up a gallery very soon to host pictures of a friend’s trip to Anime North. So it made me want to work on my site once again. I will also attend a few conventions and take many pictures to add to the gallery as well.

Finally, with my constant nagging. I can finally use a theme I’m not too ashamed of. Won’t be super original since everything on the internet is somewhat stolen from somewhere else. I’m a fan of minimalistic design so it would be something that. I already got the mock up.

The direction I will take with this blog will pretty much remain the same. Emphasis on video games and anime.

What am I doing now?

Initially, I started this blog to make it anime related. Now I barely watch anime at all. Nothing this season really catches my eye and the stuff I would normally watch is in fillers or just haven’t gotten around to follow those update sites to download stuff like D.Gray Man.

I am not entirely bored out of my mind though. I still have my good old PS2. Last week I picked up Mana Khemia. I was rather fortunate to grab the last copy in the store. Fun game. A few days ago, I decided to get Persona 3 FES. The expansion game I’ve been waiting so long for. I also saw that there was brand new copies of Katamari on the shelf and I just couldn’t resist.

Cheap games. $40 for Mana Khemia, $30 for Persona 3 FES, and $10 for Katamari. Great deals. All these games has some very good music and soundtracks.

So now I got some sort of entertainment for a few weeks. Mana Khemia for another 30 or so hours of game play. Persona 3 FES, new game, 100+ hours. Katamari when I feel like doing something that doesn’t require much thinking.

Now I’m off to watch random stuff on nicovideo and then play something.

Lately, I’ve been doing more and more net play for my favourite 2D fighter, Melty Blood. I am still pretty bad at the game but it’s so very fun. There isn’t enough hype for it at the moment with very few arcades outside of Japan have the machine.

I’m looking forward to this summer when I head over to Vancouver and check out their arcades. I know for certain that there’s one with this machines. I am so excited for that. Also, I’m still looking for people to play against. :)

Why play games and not make blog post? No one reads. :(

Maybe if I get my code monkeys to work on a better looking WP theme. I have no sense of design and hopeless when it comes to coding…. and very lazy.

With high expectation to this relatively dark series. I couldn’t help myself by making this post.

Continue on for the back story of the game. So many spoilers…

In the game, you play as this quiet high school student who moved back into the city when a devastating accident has happened to his parents. Moving into a dorm and getting attacked by these “shadows” a few days later. During that attack, the dorm he has moved into turns out to be the headquarters of at special extermination unit called SEES. They monitor him and later finds out that he has a special ability they all share. The ability to summon Persona at their own will with the assistance of a gun like tool called Evokers. Normally, a person can only summon one but this character can switch between several at whenever he feels it is necessary.

Normally these shadows would only appear in a structure called Tartarus that only reveals itself during a time after midnight called The Dark Hour. The Dark Hour is a time where every normal person would turn into a casket like object and is usually safe from shadows. Those that find themselves in their human forms are at risk of having themselves eaten by the shadows. These shadows feed on their victim’s mind and they become a vegetable like state in which they call Apathy Syndrome. During a full moon, a ‘larger’ shadow appears outside of Tartarus and reeks havoc around the city. These larger shadows is an entity of a certain arcana card and has a unique characteristic with respect to that arcana. After each night and weeks before a full moon, you are visited by a boy named Pharos who appears during his sleep and is only seen by him. He gives you hints and tells you to prepare for the upcoming battle.

About ten years before this, an incident took place that ultimately caused for creation of the Dark Hour and Tartarus. The Avatar of Death was loose in the city and Aigis, a robotic anti shadow machine, was fighting it. This Avatar was relentless and was killing everything around. Knowing that she cannot win against him. She sealed it inside a boy that was around the area. And that boy happens to be the main character of the game.

Before the last few of these larger shadows were defeated. A mysterious figure named Ryoji transfers into the school. When all twelve was defeated. That was when shit really hits the fan. By doing so, they inadvertently began the summoning of Nyx, which is death incantation. With the Death arcana card. Pharos bids farewell since his assistance is no longer needed and we learn more about Ryoji. It was later found out that Ryoji is the older Pharos. And an addition to that Ryoji is the Avatar of Death. Due to living inside of the character for the last ten years. The Avatar had grown to have more human emotions. He tells SEES his role in welcoming Nyx and how it cannot be adverted.

Since it’s a video game. You can easily guess that this disaster did not take place and the end of the world did not happen.

More time passes and here we are at the anime.

The start of the anime shows a red headed female, probably a younger Mitsuru, underwater.  I think I understand why she’s there but the purpose of this doesn’t seem to serve any significant info to the plot to the series… yet.

For a portion of this episode, we see problems the city is facing. Mysterious deaths of certain individuals and the outbreak of Apathy Syndrome victims. The other chunk of this episode, follows a normal high school student, Shin Kanzato, has he returns to his hometown ten years later… sound sort of familiar. But we can easily guess that he isn’t going to be a normal student just because he wouldn’t be the lead role if is was.

As Shin roams around town with his younger brother, Jun, after being locked out by his older brother, Ryo, who happens to be a police officer busy with these cases. We see that “ya, he is a normal kid after all.” During the evening, he notices a fortune telling like stand at a street corner. This mysterious figure gives him cynical advice and when he reveals his face. We can recognize him almost immediately as Igor, the keeper of the Velvet Room. His role in the video game was to help guide and assist the main character through Persona fusion and to insure that he follows through with the contract he signed in the beginning of the game.

A noticeable difference in this is the removal of evokers. It makes sense because of the controversy behind it with people shooting themselves. Now it appears that it can be summoned without one. Some at will, some unwillingly, and others when facing danger. When a high school girl got attacked, we see that her Persona was forced out of her and her head looked like it was going to explode. Saved by Ryo, who happens to also be a Persona user saves her by simply bring out his to fight with a simple point of a finger.

When Ryo finally returns home and lets Shin and Jun inside. You see Shin unpacking his thing and has a collection of clay figures. But an unusual one stands out that resembles Igor.

He then go out in search for him where he last saw him and then finds himself attacked by the same person who attacked the girl. His Persona comes out to protect him and destroys the other guy’s Persona. But it seems as if he is then awaken and less aggressive…

Now this is what I think. I actually really enjoyed this episode. Although to understand the back story is quite important to actually figure out what’s going on is important. It is most likely they will explain it in the next two or three episodes. I’m curious as to see where this anime is going. There is still a lot of mystery behind the Kanzato family. And I’m eager to find out who the main villain is. I hope they don’t recycle the same ‘boss’ as the video game. That would just be such a disappointment.
